MLSS held our popular Beach Interpretation program again this year on Bowen Island. It was a great day had by all with many enthusiastic members from the community coming out to learn about the marine life at their local beaches.
On Saturday, Feb 23, 2013 a historic dive exploration was undertaken and completed onto the top of the Lions Bay sea-mount 218 ft down. An endeavor never before known or attempted, the dive team documented large glass sponges, forming a bioherm on the top of the pinnacle.

These delicate deep water sponges provide ideal habitat for rockfish but are vulnerable to impacts from fishing.
