Oceans Day – June 8, 2019

Oceans Day June 8, 2019

The MLSS set up a display for the DFO researchers at PSEC (Pacific Science Enterprise Centre, West Vancouver), Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, MP for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, other scientists and guests.

Directors Glen Dennison, Adam Taylor and student Mikalyn Trinca Colonel attended the Oceans Day Event, briefing attendees on the Howe Sound sponge reef discoveries and their underwater work.

Mikalyn, under the direction of Dr. Angela Stevenson of UBC, will be undertaking “A Plastics in Sponge Study” with the help of Glen Dennison and the MLSS.

The event was a great success, providing a special opportunity to communicate the value of collaborative research efforts amongst regional scientists, citizen scientists and students to the federal ministerial staff.
