Lingcod Egg Mass Survey Information for Dive Clubs and Shops
MLSS’ Lingcod Egg Mass Survey (LEMS) monitoring program relies on an extensive network of citizen science divers across the coast of BC. Participating in this program not only brings together the dive community but allows divers to become marine stewards of the waters they love to dive in by contributing valuable data on lingcod populations. This data can be used to directly inform management and conservation efforts, protecting lingcod for generations to come.
If your dive shop or club is interested in bringing together your dive community to participate in this important research, MLSS will support this goal by providing an informational session (in person or online), free of cost.
During this session your dive community will learn about the history of lingcod in BC, how to conduct an underwater survey, and where they can submit their data (with plenty of extra time for socializing and talking all things scuba!).
So far MLSS has collaborated with Nanaimo Dive Outfitters, Sink or Swim Scuba, Wilson Diving, Sundown Diving, and Seadragon Charters and we would love to hear from you! If this sounds like something you are interested in, contact us for more details.
