In cooperation with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans of Canada a volunteer diver program run by MLSS Stewardship coordinator, Peter Mieras, of Rendedezvous Dive Adventures in Barkley Sound, has run its first official year and last summer they had 2 nets or net remains removed. As the gillnetters reported the lost net quickly, they were removed within a week, there was a great deal of marine life saved and less loss of life than in last year’s case where a net was discovered by accident and stayed at least 3 weeks on the reef.
