Many areas of the British Columbia marine environment are threatened by pollution, over harvesting, and habitat degradation. Some areas have already been dramatically affected resulting in imbalanced ecosystems. Without help and protection, our marine environment has little or no chance for recovery.

There is an urgent need to stop this trend. Everyone depends on our marine habitats and we have the ability to stop the destruction. Marine life sanctuaries protect threatened marine life for the benefit of future generations. The no-take philosophy (all harvesting of living resources eliminated) ensures food web security for all species – including ours.
